While bicycle touring in Germany
we found that one of the most enjoyable things in Europe is the
proliferation of small markets selling flowers and fresh produce.
It is a treat to the senses to wander amongst the vendors and
their wares. In Augsburg, Germany, this colourful market had,
among other things, flower sellers hawking bouquets of orange
and yellow blooms. A small, wrinkled, man with a sunny disposition
waved colourful bunches of gladioli at passersby, while elderly
vegetable sellers hawked their carrots, potatoes, and assorted
garden produce. The old women, kerchiefs on their heads, delightfully
struck up lively conversations with potential customers. |
