Bike Touring Journals by Neil Anderson and Sharon Anderson Bicycle touring journals
July 7 Friday cloudy Bicycle touring Ireland
The forest we picked to free camp in at least allowed room this time to go around the barricade with our loaded touring bikes.
We bicycled a gravel road until the trees ran out a short distance later at the edge of two farm fields. We wanted the woods for shelter from the winds. Sharon went off to investigate while I held the bikes.
The place she found wasn't exactly easily accessible. At one point I balked at having to push my loaded touring bike through a multitude of brambles and rutty bumps.
I found an overgrown old road instead and we set up our Kelty bicycle touring tent under some evergreens, right on the overgrown path. A nearby bird clicked its song like a toy with low batteries.
We spent the rest of the day reading. I finally finished the bicycle magazines from Joan and David in England.
A small crick goes by our tent on the other side of a chicken wire fence. Sharon went to fetch water and then filtered it to make tea and flat pancakes served with delicious raspberry jam.
