August 18 Friday sunny 28º C Bicycle touring Sweden We left Yvonne's this morning and are bicycling the Gisleden bike route along the coast of Sweden. The Gisleden bicycle route has been on little trafficked roads most of the way. Much of the bike path is flat. We climbed one hill and had a view of a lake. That was enough cycling for us. We pulled our touring bicycles to a halt and Sharon went down to the lake for a quick swim while I started lunch. My bicycle tire was flat this morning as we prepared to leave Yvonne's and continue our Swedish bicycle tour. I pumped the tire up, but it's flat again. We quickly rip out the old tube and insert a new one while Arran and Rebecca wait. A hungry cat sniffed us out. We threw it scraps of bread, cheese, and cinnamon bun as it alternately purred and hissed at us. We stopped our touring bicycles in a park in Varburg, Sweden, before bicycling another nine kilometres to friends of Yvonne's, Henry and Inger. They have four kids -- two boys and two girls, ranging in age from 5 to 18. We set up our small Kelty bicycle touring tent in their back yard beneath a tree. They said the temperature of the sea water was 23º C. Very warm, they say. There is a three kilometre beach just down from their house. Henry says we can run right in. "You don't even need any clothes," he says. Gotta love bicycle touring with those Swedes. |
