Bike Touring Journals by Neil Anderson and Sharon Anderson Bicycle touring journals
July 14 Thursday Bicycle touring from Bassano Alberta - Bassano Alberta
Thunderstorms shake us awake in the morning, but only a bit of rain falls. The major storm is to the north. The thunder is earth shaking loud though. Odd having thunder in the morning.
The clouds clear off and in a couple of hours blow back in again. Only a few drops of rain fall sporadically throughout the day.
We play it safe though and decide it is time for a day off from riding. We take the opportunity to clean our muddy bikes before taking a walk around town. There are lots of parks and grass areas. There is a schoolyard with pool, tennis court, arena, basketball, soccer fields, and baseball diamonds.
We go to the dairy bar for supper and smother ourselves in bacon mozza burgers -- complete with banana milkshakes. We stop at the grocery story later to pick up junk food. We spend the remainder of the evening perusing the local library.
There is a crotchety elderly gent in a motorhome next to us. When I drop some of our garbage into the trash can, he says he saw a hobo picking through the garbage bins this morning. "I would have shot him if I had my shotgun with me," he tells me. I guess that's why we have gun laws.
