Bike Touring Journals by Neil Anderson and Sharon Anderson Bicycle touring journals
July 25 Monday - August 6 Saturday Bicycle touring Edmonton Alberta
We go to A Taste of Edmonton. The portions are small but everything I is delicious. We cycle down with our good friend Pierre Vermette one day. His wife Lisa is in Fort St John visiting her family.
We go to the library and check out books on Europe, Portugal, Spain, and Morocco. We go to Sharon's Mom and Dad's and spend the next two weeks reading. Murray is supposed to take us back in after playing golf but he forgets, so we borrow a car and drop it off at Loran's work. Our cars are in storage at the farm now.
We list the house for a low price with Ed Thurston, a real estate agent. He said that was a good price to sell it quickly. A couple of days later he phones and tells us we'll never get that for it. Huh? Do they just say whatever price is good initially so that you will list with them?
We go to our best friends', Ryan and Heide's, for supper and a movie. We see True Lies with Arnold Schwarzenegger . Funny! Sharon finally sees the humour in Arnie movies. Maybe she will be a fan now.
Our hexagonal aquarium and tropical fish are boarding at Heide and Ryan's while we are on our trip. Heide says that Ryan and she have quickly adapted to their new lifestyle. They enjoy watching the fish. Feeding is a great thrill. I notice that the water is a bit cloudy -- a clue that she may be overfeeding. But the coolie loach has never been happier. We bring some frozen food and a pH test kit. They already bought a new pump; my old one was too noisy for them.
On another day we go to see the movie Philadelphia with Sharon's brother and future sister-in-law, Murray and Sherry. (Murray is leaving in September to play hockey in Germany. I guess that playing hockey for a living beats working a 9-5 office job. Maybe we will meet him in Europe. He is there until April. Maybe we can see him at Christmas?) Sharon's sister Faye, and future brother-in-law Paul go to a different movie at the same complex. Their movie finishes quite a bit sooner than ours, so by the time we get out, they have already gone. We go for nachos.
Another day we visit Sharon's high school friend Sue and her husband Mike. Mike is away with the kids at the lake. Sue is trying to decide which computer to buy. I tell her it isn't a question of which computer to buy, but rather which model Macintosh to purchase.
Vicky comes over and we pick some routes out of the cycling books that people have done over the years. We mark the routes on our maps.
It has been raining hard day after day. There have been terrific thunder storms. We have not been in a big hurry to get out there.
