December 13 Tuesday Bicycle touring Spain from Pico Veleta in the Sierra Nevada to Almeria Spain
It takes a while for the sun to hit our side of the mountain. It is cool until it does; then it warms up quickly.
We packed up our cycling tent and cycling gear and cycled down to Granada. We waved goodbye to our foreman friend as we passed him on the road.
Bought part of a chicken to put in the pasta tonight. I could become a vegetarian very easily in Spain -- hunks of cows hanging from hooks -- various animal parts -- chickens that still have feathers -- and the smell! I have to be in tiptop shape just to stomach that. Yep, fruits and vegetables are starting to look real good. Before we could cook the chicken, I had to skin and get rid of the feathers, de-bone, and then chop the bloody mess into cubes. It even tastes wilder than what we are used to back home. Pass the salad. We are bicycle riding toward Almeria. We've ridden our fully loaded touring bicycles 20 kilometres from Granada on the only road we know of and, guess what? We suddenly bump into a "No Bicycles" sign.
We decided to free camp in an olive grove by the sign. Our hope is to get an early start before lots of traffic and hopefully the civil guard. Our map shows we have 35 kilometres to cycle before we can hit a road off that will take us off of this one. Hmmm. They're certainly not making things easy for bicycle tourists.
