February 2 Thursday Bicycle touring Italy at a seaside pullout past Chia Sardinia to Sardegna another free bicycle camping spot on a hillside along the south coast of Sardinia
We are do to our last lira. I will have to find a bank tomorrow. Although we are stocked pretty good with food right now, it may get slim pickings if we have to make it through the whole weekend. So far it has cost about $300 for two weeks. Mainly food expenses, except about $30 miscellaneous.
It was a beautiful bicycle ride along the south coast of Sardinia this morning with the sun sparkling like flashy diamonds off the sea surface. Not much traffic or wind. A new vista around every curve as the road dipped and doodled, following the shoreline on the hillside.
We pulled our fully loaded touring bicycles to a stop for lunch in Teluda by a dry river bed. There sure are a lot of bridges over arid gravel patches. We saw cacti growing along the banks of one and burnt trees standing in the dry river bed. I don't think that river has seen water for a long time.
We got a camp book from a tourist office in Pula. The prices are $25 - $35 a night -- in low season! We haven't stayed in any campgrounds while on our Sardinian bicycle tour -- the camp spots are not usually located in the most scenic areas anyway -- although a shower would be nice. I wonder how much they would charge us to have a shower? $30?
Tonight we are camped high on a hillside, overlooking the sea. Saw a gorgeous reddy-orange sunset. Bicycle touring is the life for me!
