Bike Touring Journals by Neil Anderson and Sharon Anderson Bicycle touring journals
February 16 Thursday Bicycle touring Italy Sardinia from a free bicycle touring camp site on a ledge overlooking the sea in Sardinia to another wild camping spot at a cape near Cape Caccia Sardegna
Yesterday was baking -- not a cloud in the sky -- then in the late afternoon it quickly clouded over and got cold. It looked like it was going to storm but no rain fell.
In Alghero we re-stocked with fresh pasta and oranges. The two women at the store took an interest in our trip. One had been to Vancouver recently and said it was cold. It is 20º C in Sardinia today and they are still walking around with down-filled coats on.
We ride our fully loaded touring bicycles to eat lunch at the park in a sheltered clearing out of the wind. Several wind surfers are making good use of their lunch break. The water is a clear aquamarine green.
We cycle off toward Cape Caccia. As we bicycle across a narrow bridge we see a Roman ruin of an ancient bridge. Several people are out on the end of the Roman ruins trying their luck fishing.
We pedal past a pine tree forest and Palmavera Nuraghe village. There are lots of good free wild camping places. We continue riding our fully loaded touring bicycles to a turnoff to a dead end cape and proceed cycling until we see a dirt road leading down to a shallow bay.
The waves are lapping gently at the rocky shore. Sharon changed my rear tire. It is getting threadbare and I would hate to have a blowout going downhill.
