Bike Touring Journals by Neil Anderson and Sharon Anderson Bicycle touring journals
April 2 Sunday Bicycle touring Italy from Florence Italy
Took it easy cycling day today. Stayed in the tent all day. The morning was overcast, but the birds were twittering up a storm for all they were worth. From our free camp spot, inside our cycle touring tent, we could hear yelling and honking down on the road. Sharon looked over the bank and saw streams of cyclists out for their Sunday ride, all decked out in their latest colourful Lycra fancy duds.
The sun came out in the afternoon and it got warm inside the tent. A four-wheel drive vehicle inched by on the adjacent track past our tent. Bet he was surprised to see us camping there.
Sharon made toast by slicing our huge Italian loaf of bread and then baking it on both sides in the frying pan. We spread apricot jam on it and it tastes like the real thing -- it's even crunchy like toast. Her culinary talents never fail to amaze me!
I'm reading the Alternate Asimovs for a second time; Sharon is re-reading Scales of Gold. Writing postcards.
It's quite nice out. It would have made a great day for cycle touring. Guess you can't always judge a day by its morning.
Lots of older fellas out cycling on their fancy lightweight machines adorned in the latest neon lycra plumage. Somehow I can't imagine Sharon's dad in skintight neon-pink or lime Lycra cycling shorts.
