Bike Touring Journals by Neil Anderson and Sharon Anderson Partners in Grime
Embarrassing
"Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop away from you like the leaves of Autumn."
~ John MuirDismantling our tent in pre-sunrise glow, we reversed our previous night's footsteps along the river to the rest area. Near the parking lot, a truck's backup beeper sounded. We didn't give it any thought ... until we materialized from the bush and into the stark parking area.
A maintenance crew stared. We felt about as inconspicuous as Shaquille O'Neal at a midget convention. Sharon, still harbouring pangs of guilt about our unlawful overnight stay, visibly cringed.
However, rather than lecture us about the feloniousness of rest area camping, the workers ignored us and went about their business. Sharon's eyebrows rose. I could tell that, like a juvenile delinquent who realized her crime held no consequence, she changed from feeling guilty to planning future rest area camping!
