Return of the Rodents
Bruni drove us to a pub along the canal and walked with Sharon and I to the bird sanctuary ponds. A few people were painting and scraping their houseboats. One fisherman didn't care where he set his tent. Stakes were pounded right into the gravel pathway and walkers had to go around. His sleeping bag was thrown inside. It appeared he had either spent the night or was planning to.
Bruni drove home while Sharon and I walked along the canal to Tring Station. I felt like one of those mice dropped off on the other side of the canal. I was tempted to ask the guy painting his houseboat to dab some on my finger nails. "Yep, the same one keeps coming back."
When we got back, Bruni was on the phone talking to Ali, one of Tina's skiing buddies who lived in London. She had arranged for us to stay at his flat overnight if we wanted to go back into London. Thoughtful people like Alistair and Bruni gave me faith in the goodness of the entire human race.
