Kayaking New Zealand. There was a loud CRACK! We looked up in time to see a waterfall break off the ridge and start its long descent to the Sound's surface. Soon, water was cascading off the surrounding mountains in dozens of thin mare's tail rivulets. "This," our guide informed us, eyeing the sullen sky, "is typical Milford Sound weather." (He's right! It is one of the world's wettest places -- raining an average of 8 metres annually!) |
