Bike Touring Journals by Neil Anderson and Sharon Anderson Bicycle touring Greece
Room To Spare
When we got off the ferry in Patras we were greeted with the sight of snow on all the surrounding mountains. We headed for Athens along the sea, sticking to the coast until we were farther south. The blue water sparkled. There were beautiful purple blooms, roses and other flowers. Greece reminded me of Sardinia with its similar vegetation, half finished houses and great beaches. I hoped the hospitality proved similar as well.
A cold wind pushed us, then reversed and slowed our progress. We were both suffering from ferry lag so we called it an early day. We decided it would give us an opportunity to air out our wet and musty tent. It hadn't been set up since our night in Verona.
We found a pullout next to the sea where a small road led to a few olive trees. One fellow wandered over to check us out, but merely looked in, then left without comment. We had the crashing tide to ourselves. Just the two of us in our suddenly spacious and roomy tent! Or so it seemed since Sherry was no longer there. A two person tent meant two people, no matter how good of friends you were.
