Bike Touring Journals by Neil Anderson and Sharon Anderson Bicycle touring journals
October 9 Monday sunny Bicycle touring Germany
Nordlingden, another walled German city, has a big church. Nordlingden is built in the crater of a meteorite. Guess they figure that meteorites never strike twice in the same place? We walked along a short section of the wall surrounding the city.
There is a castle in Harburg. Sharon and Sherry walked up to see the castle while I sat at a picnic table in the parking lot and read. In a few minutes they returned. The castle was closed for the day.
In the main part of downtown Harburg, Sherry tried calling a host family. The woman said they had two kids and didn't have room for us. We figured since they lived on the Romantic Road they must be inundated with cyclists all summer long and were tired of seeing our sorry faces.
We tried phoning other host families but it was a poor time of day and we didn't get any answers. Sherry says that whenever she tries a host family, they always say no. So they've volunteered me to be the phonemeister.
