August 30 Tuesday Bicycle touring from Wakefield Michigan to Wakefield Michigan
It is an inside day. Not good for bicycle touring today. It rained all night. It is still raining. It is still dry in the tent, but the side walls are muddy. I opened up one side of the fly a bit so I can peek out and see the green grass and trees and the lake below. It is on the coolish side today. Did I mention that it wasn't a particularly good day for bicycle touring?
I phoned Michelle last night. She says Glynn, her brother whom I used to work with in Edmonton, is getting married to a girl he met last May. They plan to tie the knot on the October long weekend. I hope that we get to see them when we are in Toronto. It will be nice to have a break from cycling for a couple of days.
Well, the lesson I learned is not to camp on sand. Especially when it rains hard. I slept and read most of the day. It is still chilly.
Around supper time, we put plastic grocery bags over our cycling shoes and trundle down to a picnic shelter by the lake in the day-use area. Even the ducks are hiding out in the grass.
We met the guy collecting camping fees. He said since the weather is so lousy and we weren't able to leave today, he only charged us for one day. Guess I'm not the only one who thought it was a lousy day for touring on a bicycle.
