March 2 Thursday Bicycle touring Italy Sardinia from Tharros Sardinia to a forest near Fordongianus Sardegna
It rains during the night. Heavily. Nice to be inside. We went up a ladder into the attic. The wind subsides and blows in the opposite direction. Good for us since we're going to be pedalling our fully loaded touring bicycles that way now towards Arbatax on the other side of the Sardinia, over the massive Gennargentu mountains again. Our plan is to cycle to Bruno and Iole's, stay there to rest up for a week, then take the ferry from Arbatax to the mainland of Italy.
Benito warns us about the banditos in the mountain forest and the untrustworthy murderous shepherds.I check for my kidneys. Yep. Still there. He implores us to stay another day (and night). There is no way that Sharon is going to stay one more minute longer than necessary. We get our fully loaded touring bicycles out of his garage and set off into the drizzle.
It rains all day. We eat lunch at a train station. We cycle a ways farther. The rain looks like an all day affair, so we look for some woods where we will be able to unobtrusively pitch our cycle touring tent.
We are back to cycling the road to Fordongianus for a short stretch. We see the woods which we've passed twice before, saying both times that it sure looks like a good free camp spot. We are finally camping here. It is a good spot.
After hearing the snap of a branch in the forest after we're inside our tent, we check for banditos and shepherds. Do they work in the rain? Actually some very interesting olfactory smells today in the rain. Sharon is more blunt and says it stinks. Wet dogs. Wet wool. Wet shepherds. You get the idea. Good think it doesn't rain here often.
