March 29 Wednesday Bicycle touring Italy Inside day. First ice crystals poked at the tent fly, then rain, which turned to hail, and then more rain. Did I mention that the weather for bicycle touring in Italy in March may be a bit dodgy? The temp is 1º C. I only go out of our cycle touring tent when absolutely necessary. Heard the workers in the forest swear when the ice crystals started. Then they left in their vehicles. We filtered water from the small cold trickling stream we are camped beside. Sharon made crepe-like pancakes with our leftover flour we had bought in Tortolli Sardinia, minus the milk and eggs. She put chocolate in the second batch and they were superb. Good thing -- we didn't have enough pasta to fill the holes in our bellies. I put up some art, torn from a tourist brochure, to brighten up the grey walls of the cave. |
